MTM-HWD®, the new MTM process building block system, which for the first time combines methodical and ergonomic work design in just one step, is supported by a user group founded in February 2022 in its operational application. The third virtual meeting took place on June 24th. We have five questions to Dr. Thomas Finsterbusch, Head of the User Group:

  1. Who is in the group?

The User Group MTM-HWD® currently consists of two representatives each from companies and scientific partners – these are Audi, Deutsche MTM-Gesellschaft mbH, GEZE, Miele, Schaeffler, Siemens, TU Dortmund, Volkswagen and ZF Friedrichshafen .

  1. How are the meetings prepared?

The content is compiled in advance. All members of the user group can submit topics. The interest and need for exchanging experiences is so great that the planned two hours for the web meeting are usually not enough.

  1. What is being discussed?

The focus is on the exchange on the operational application of the new MTM process building block system and the integration of the MTM process building block system into the operational work environment, for example planning, IE and occupational safety. One focus of the most recent meeting was the possibilities of digitization when creating and maintaining the MTM-HWD analyses. Another focus is the presentation of company-specific case studies by the members of the user group, which we then discuss together. In addition, we talk about innovations, for example in the MTM software solution TiCon, or about development topics for MTM-HWD® and also keep an eye on the current status of research relating to work planning.

  1. Who can participate?

All companies interested in using MTM-HWD® and whose employees have completed MTM-HWD® training are invited. The MTM SUMMIT on October 19 and 20, 2022 offers a good opportunity to get to know the work of the user group and the members personally. Those who cannot be there can join the online session “Meet the members of User Group MTM-HWD® on October 19, 2022 from 12:45 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Simply book a free online ticket at summit.mtm.org.

  1. What do users say about MTM-HWD®?

They are obviously excited. This ranges from “an essential building block for purely digitally planned workflows” (Martin Haselhuhn, Head of Group Industrial Engineering at the Volkswagen Group – editor’s note), to “historic moment for industrial engineering” (Knuth Jasker, Deutsche MTM-Gesellschaft mbH – editor’s note) to “MTM-HWD marks the beginning of a new era in work design” (Dr. Johannes Sternatz, Head of Group Industrial Engineering Methods and Ergonomics at Volkswagen – editor’s note). That was also the aim of the HWD® consortium project: to revolutionize the planning of human work.
