The introduction of modern work assessment as part of lean activities or systematic productivity management is (unfortunately) often not an issue, especially for medium-sized companies. But time and ergonomic data are important in order to know what your own production or assembly is actually capable of. This is the only way to put current time consumption and physical stresses in the right light and to find out where to start in order to do things better. Based on concrete best practices from the industry, the LeanDigitalConference on May 24, 2022 will show how efficient and ergonomic production systems can be designed and implemented with little effort.

Association of Entrepreneurs draws attention to MTM-Easy®
Time determination very easy – Association of Entrepreneurs provided information on how this works in the most recent working group on labor management. Association engineer Tobias Fastenrath got competent support in front of the webcam. Dr. Thomas Finsterbusch, head of the MTM Academy, and Andreas Bochmann, project engineer at Deutsche MTM-Gesellschaft mbH, presented the new, cloud-based software solution to the online meeting participants.
The Prokon process offers the possibility of systematically improving constructive solutions in product development. The MTM-based procedure evaluates the manual and automated assembly scope of a product. The transparent representation makes it possible to identify significant deficits at an early stage and sustainably promotes the interaction of planning, construction and production. ProKon is already being used successfully in industry, e.g. B. at BSH and Daimler.
Workplaces arranged in a U-shape, electrically height-adjustable work tables, optimal reach, short distances, flexible provision of materials, individual lighting – SIKO GmbH relies on efficient and ergonomically designed work at the new location in Buchenbach im Breisgau. The manufacturer of measurement and drive technology brought in two specialists to plan and implement modern workplaces in manual assembly: item GmbH, one of the leading providers of modular systems for industrial applications, and Deutsche MTM-Gesellschaft mbH, an expert in prospective planning and design of work systems with the global method standard MTM (Methods-Time Measurement). Everyone involved is convinced of the result: a significant increase in productivity in assembly and satisfied employees.
The members of the AG Industrial Engineering of the Working Group for Economical Manufacturing (AWF), which was founded just over a year ago, met on 26./27. April 2022 at ERCO GmbH in Lüdenscheid, a member company of MTM ASSOCIATION e. V. The focus was on the current challenges for manufacturing companies and the contribution that industrial engineering must make in the systematic planning and design of work systems if it wants to be perceived as the engine of value creation in the company.
How can artificial intelligence, automatic data acquisition, data processing and data representation and augmented reality technology work together to master the challenges of industrial work in the future, even in medium-sized companies? The research project AI-MDA (“Automatic input processing for MTM-analyses and displaying in augmented reality environments”) should provide answers.

Can the benchmark eHpV (engineered hours per vehicle) used in vehicle construction be used as a cross-industry key figure in production? The answer will be available on April 12th, 2022 in an online meetup with Olaf Damitz, Volkswagen, and Dr. Thomas Finsterbusch, MTM ASSOCIATION e. V
What is the intention behind our joint event with Lean Knowledge Base “Lean Work – efficient and ergonomic design”? What to expect from the event? Prof. Dr. Peter Kuhlang and Dr. Fabian Nöhring answer these questions and provide detailed information on the LeanDigitalConference of MTM ASSOCIATION e. V., in the podcast episode with Nadja Böhlmann.
We had already heard that the meetings of the German Lean Community were a bit different. But we didn’t expect the bear to tap-dance in every respect. The icing on the cake at LATC 2022 was the LeanBaseAwards. In the training and consulting organization category, the prize went to the MTM ASSOCIATION e. V.
The results of the Human Work Design (HWD®) development project were officially handed over to the MTM ASSOCIATION e. V. during the MTM SUMMIT 2021. Now the cooperation is to be continued within the framework of a User Group MTM-HWD®. Start is on 15.02.2022.
One-MTM, the worldwide network for the development and dissemination of MTM products and services, has established itself in the two years of its existence as a reliable partner of MTM member companies and customers all over the world.
The German LEAN community will meet on March 17 and 18 at LATC2022 in the Maimarktclub in Mannheim. The highlight of the hybrid event is the presentation of the LeanBaseAward. Among the finalists is the MTM ASSOCIATION e. V., which entered the race with its cloud-based software solution MTM-Easy®.
At the group headquarters of power tool manufacturer STIHL in Waiblingen, Baden-Württemberg, the MTM method standard has long been established. Since the end of 2021, the Austrian site STIHL Tirol GmbH has also had it in writing: With the seal of approval “approved by MTM ASSOCIATION”, the industry association confirms the company’s…
“The digitization of MTM training and the consistent implementation of the internationally standardized training program have taken the One-MTM partner network a decisive step forward,” says Dr. Thomas Finsterbusch, head of the MTM Academy, commenting on the figures for the 2021 training year.
When engineers at Audi talk about the future, digitalization plays an extremely prominent role. Industrial engineering cannot escape the issue of constantly reviewing the quality and efficiency of its processes either. However, how can IE meet all the requirements? Audi has now developed a new kind of approach in conjunction with Deutsche MTM-Vereinigung e. V. and other partners in order to press ahead with the digital revolution in Industrial Engineering 4.0.
As in the previous year, the MTM ASSOCIATION e. V. General Meeting 2021 was held with a written ballot. The amendments to the Articles of Association, which were carried by a large majority, reflect the issues of internationalization and the attractiveness of membership in the MTM ASSOCIATION e. V.

Whether corporations are involved in mass, batch or single-part production – MTM provides the suitable building block system for each type of process. This is proving to be highly useful for the Miele corporation at its factory in Bürmoos, Austria, too. The challenge in the medical engineering division is to plan particularly extensive work content with just small numbers of items – and still keep expenditure as low as possible. The industrial engineering department there was confronted by the issue of whether MTM could be used in a cost-effective manner for planning purposes in the medical engineering sector.
The number of MTM training courses completed this year (via MTM ASSOCIATION e. V. and partners) has almost reached the 4,000 mark and is thus almost back to pre-Corona levels. This positive development is mainly due to the rapid expansion of online offerings by the MTM Academy and MTM Institute teams.

As many as 470 trucks leave the Mercedes-Benz factory in Wörth operated by Daimler AG every day. As in the cars division, the managers face the challenge of shortening development times and reducing manufacturing costs when a new product is launched. As the production department causes most of the manufacturing costs (machining parts and assembly work), it makes sense to start with cost saving or cost prevention measures even in the early phase of the product creation process – i.e. in the product development or design phase.
Communicating well-founded knowledge in a sustainable and cost-efficient manner – that is what corporations require in any contemporary employee qualification program. Deutsche MTM-Vereinigung e. V. is going one step further in its MTM-Practitioner training. Firms are able to kill three birds with one stone – practical training, specific project work and direct incorporation in ongoing operations – by using the in-house training option and the associated integration of topics that are particularly suitable for the corporation. The pioneers of this customized training concept are the MTM member corporations, BMW AG and Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG.
